Mechanism of Action:

Irinotecan functions by blocking topoisomerase I, an enzyme necessary for cell DNA replication. Irinotecan stops cancer cells from duplicating their DNA by inhibiting this enzyme, which results in cell death. Given how much cancer cells need on DNA replication, this impact is especially helpful in rapidly expanding tumors.

Uses:

Metastatic Colorectal Cancer

Dosage and Administration:

Administered by 90-minute IV infusion, usually in cycles of two to three weeks. Particularly in individuals with hepatic impairment, the dosage may be changed in response to side effects, tolerance, and patient response.
